CITY OF GUELPH SNOW MANAGEMENT FACILITY
The City of Guelph (City), known for its environmental leadership and stewardship, teamed with GHD, one of the world’s leading professional services companies, to design and build a state-of-the-art snow management facility that meets or exceeds the current snow management guidelines and best management practices. The project started in 2015 with site selection and feasibility studies of three City-owned properties. Once a site was selected, pre-design studies were completed between 2016 and 2017 to shape the future design. Between 2017 and 2018, the City and GHD consulted with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), the Grand River Conservation Authority and other stakeholders to conceptualize and finalize the design of the facility. Upon receipt of the required permits and approvals, the City’s construction contractor, Melfer Construction Inc., began construction of the facility in April 2019. Construction of the facility was substantially complete in January 2020. We are extremely proud of the new facility, its leading-edge design, environmental and technical enhancements, and ability to provide numerous other benefits to the City and surrounding municipalities.
