Trace Associates Inc. (Trace) coordinated the remediation of 10,500 cubic metres of petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) impacted soil associated with a former retail fuel outlet owned by UFA Co-operatives Ltd. (UFA). Impacted material was transported from the commercial site to a nearby UFA facility for land treatment. The land treatment area location and methodology was approved by Alberta Environment and Parks. Remediation was successful in reducing PHC concentrations by 95%. The treated material was returned to the Site as backfill and resulted in successful regulatory closure. The property was listed for sale at fair market value, and several offers are pending. Trace evaluated the benefits of the project compared to a typical dig and dump using select economic, social and environmental metrics.
